Damages case put off for October 6 by Ranga Chandrarathne The damages suit filed by the Minister of Ports Development, Civil Aviation and Media Mangala Samaraweera, claiming a sum of Rs. 150 million as damages, against the Bank of Ceylon yesterday was put off for October 6. The case came up for hearing before the Additional District Judge R.M.S.K. Ratnayaka. The plaintiff has cited the Bank of Ceylon as the sole respondent. The plaintiff states that he had brought two Gold Credit cards from the defendant in June 1996 and March 1997 respectively. The plaintiff further states that in violation of the trust he placed in the defendant, the Weekend Newspaper "Sunday Leader" had carried the numbers of the credit cards in an article published on March 17,1997. The plaintiff further states that even after the said publication the defendant did not take any steps to alter numbers of the credit cards.The plaintiff states that this act on the part of the defendant amounted to breach of trust and confidence that he placed in the defendant as a reputed bank. Therefore he claims a sum of Rs 150 million as damages. |
