by Uditha Kumarasinghe A systematic program will be implemented within the Dambulla Pradeshiya Sabha division to eradicate the dengue epidemic. This program implemented by Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon's directions is expected to be introduced in other local Government regions too, a Provincial Councils Ministry spokesman told the Daily News yesterday. The dengue eradication program will be implemented in collaboration with Dambulla Pradeshiya Sabha, civic organisations, state institutions, schools and public participation. Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva's assistance will be sought to make this program a success, he said. The prime objective of this program is to turn the Dambulla Pradeshiya Sabha division covering 486 square kilometres with a population of 680,000 free from the Dengue epidemic, he said. Under this program, swift measures will be taken to destroy the dengue breeding grounds while taking measures to conserve the environs of places like houses, cities and other public places. Due to its economic and community development activities Dambulla is popularly known as an eternally awakened city. A total of 63843 permanent residents and 12369 houses are in the Dambulla Pradeshiya Sabha area. A large number of people come to the city daily for various business and religious activities, he said. Therefore Minister Tennakoon in collaboration with other civic organisations has taken steps to implement this dengue eradication program preventing the spread of dengue within the Dambulla Pradeshiya Sabha division, he added. |
