by Vijayani Edirisinghe For the first time in the history of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces, a group of Sri Lankan soldiers will join some of their counterparts in several other countries in a multinational platoon exercise to be launched at the Kukuleganga Institute of Peace Support Operations Training in Sri Lanka (IPSOTSL) on June 12 at 10.00 a.m. to train soldiers for peace keeping activities in hotspots throughout the world. Nearly 200 representatives from countries having peace keeping forces are due to participate along with the selected Sri Lankan soldiers. Maj. Gen. Parami Kulatunga told a press briefing at the army headquarters yesterday the countries providing peace support training included the USA, Bangladesh, Nepal, India and Mongolia. A six member group of observers from New York will arrive here soon to observe the training program at Kukuleganga. Brig. Sreenath Rajapakse and military spokesman Col. Sumedha Perera also attended the press. |
