by P. Krishnaswamy The remains of Iyathurai Nadesan, the journalist who was assassinated in Batticaloa on May 30, by unidentified gunmen, were cremated yesterday afternoon at the Alankattai cemetery in his native village Nelliady in Vadamaratchi. More than fifty journalists from the North, East and the South as well as several representatives of human rights organisations based in Colombo, attended the funeral. Mourners in large numbers lined the streets as the cortege was taken from his parental residence in Nelliady to the Central College for people to pay their last respects, reports said. |
