Bodies of two Lankans killed in Saudi arrive today

The bodies of the two Sri Lankans killed in the Al Khobar terror attack will arrive in Colombo today morning.

The next-of-kin of Sivasubramaniam and Chandana Pradeep Anthony will formally receive the bodies when the Sri Lankan Airlines reaches Colombo today at 6 a.m.

Sivasubramaniam, 30, from Nuwara Eliya and Chandana Pradeep Anthony, 25, from Modera were killed when they were held hostage in a terrorist hold-up at a luxury housing compound in Al Khobar in the Eastern part of Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

Sri Lankan Ambassador Ibrahim Sahib Ansar told the Daily News that the embassy team, headed by its Labour Welfare Officer, Mohamed Jiffrey detailed for duty immediately after the incident was largely responsible for the quick dispatch of the bodies.

Anthony's wife Malika and his mother Mary Francisco will accompany the body while Sivasubramaniam's body will be received in Colombo by his father Muthulingam.

Ansar said the repatriation costs of the bodies were met by the sponsors, while the embassy has made arrangements for the air tickets of Malika and Mary to be met by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE). The baggages of the deceased will reach Colombo in two weeks.
