Ebrahim gets into trouble over Murali remarks BULAWAYO, Sunday, Zimbabwe vice-captain Dion Ebrahim found himself in hot waters after making an offensive remark against Sri Lanka off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan during the on-going second cricket Test at the Queens Park Oval here today. Ebrahim was quoted in the website 'Cricinfo' saying: "That was the first legal delivery he bowled - that's my personal opinion." He was reacting to the orthodox leg break he received from Muralitharan during the Zimbabwe first innings on the first day of the current Test. The Sri Lanka team management lodged an official complaint against the remark to Mike Procter, the ICC match referee for the Test and a formal hearing was due to take place at the end of the third day's play today. Under the ICC's Code of Conduct, Ebrahim's offence comes under Level 2. If he is found guilty he could face a penalty of 50 percent fine of his match fee and/or a ban of one Test match or two one-day international matches. Ebrahim can be charged under Level 2.4 for public criticism of, or inappropriate comment on a match related incident or match official. "Without limitation, players and team officials will breach this rule if they publicly criticize the match officials or denigrate a player or team against which they have played in relation to incident which occurred in a match," says the ICC guideline. |
