As a result the United People's Freedom Alliance took over the administration of the country. 'We are very grateful to everyone who extended the support for the UPFA to come to power. The election was peaceful in Panadura electorate and we extend our thanks for their support,' said Nihal Devinda Fernando (PA) at the monthly meeting of Panadura PS held at the Vijaya Kumaratunga Commemorative Hall, at Wadduwa. Ambras A. Majid (UNP) the chairman presided. Wijesena Silva (PA) said: "People expect the Alliance Government to fall today or tomorrow. There is no doubt the Alliance Government would continue for five-years implementing policies for the welfare of the people". Jagath Puspakumara (JVP) said: "We also extend our sincere thanks to the people who extended their co-operation to hold an election free from violence. Leelananda Perera (UNP) the vice-chairman said: "I too extend my thanks to everyone who assisted in holding a peaceful election. The People's Alliance would not have come to power if the JVP had not come to their assistance." Wijesena Silva (PA) said: "The Pradeshiya Sabha had roofing sheets only to be given to the supporters of the UNP, not for the poor people. Ariyapala Silva (PA) said: "I am ready to submit a list of persons who received the sheets". Ambras A. Majeed (UNP), the chairman said: "If the sheets have been sold I request the members to submit the lists to take necessary action. |
