Speaker nominee today The UPFA parliamentary group will meet today at the President House to decide their prospective candidates for the posts of Deputy Speaker and the Deputy Chairman of committees to be proposed when Parliament meets on Tuesday. According to party sources the names of National List MPs Geethanjana Gunawardene and Deputy Media Minister Cegu Issadeen have been suggested for the post of the Deputy Speaker and Deputy Chairman of Committees, respectively. However, UPFA General Secretary and Power and Energy Minister Susil Premajayantha told the Daily News a final decision will only be reached at today's meeting. The UNP, according to party sources, has decided to nominate Muttusivalingam a MP from the CWC for the Deputy Speakers post and the CWC MP Hassan Ali's name for the post of Deputy Chairman of Committees. Meanwhile, parliamentary group leaders are expected to meet today at the parliament to decide on the main businesses for Tuesday. |
