News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Solutions to teachers' problems will be found- Mangala Samaraweera by Pradeep Kumara Dharmaratne Ports and Aviation Minister and Deputy Education Minister Mangala Samaraweera said that he would look into the matter of salary anomalies and delaying of promotions of three thousand principals and find solutions to problems faced by teachers after discussing the matter with the teacher unions. Minister Samaraweera said so addressing a meeting of All-Island Acting Principals' held at his Ministry on May 13. The Minister said: The previous government didn't pay heed to the problems faced by teachers who mould students for a successful future. So the problems are piled up at present. Therefore, teachers are not morally equipped to render a better service. "The government is taking steps to uplift the education sector under the guidance of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. We will give necessary facilities to the teachers, as well as to students". "We will have discussions with the teacher unions to provide solutions to the problems of teachers. At the same time, we will take steps to look into salary anomalies and denied promotions of some 3,000 principals in order to rectify them. Minister Samaraweera said he would take early action to fill the existing vacancies of teachers and principals, while taking remedial action for the problems faced by principals after discussion with Principals' Associations. He said that the Freedom Alliance Government would take all steps necessary to uplift education after having discussions with the President. He said he would have early discussions with teachers and Principals to take necessary action to resolve their grievances. Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana, All-Island Acting Principals' Association Secretary T. W. A. K. Jayasinghe also spoke. |
