Cross Service Agreement with US not on agenda nor discussed

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Lakshman Kadirgamar stated in Washington that the Access and Cross Service Agreement (ACSA) to allow US warships and aircraft to use Sri Lankan bases for refuelling was never on the agenda and was not discussed with the United States during his visit from May 9 to 13, 2004.

Referring to a media report that he was planning to discuss an ACSA agreement in Washington, he further stated, "There is no question about it. It was not discussed," the Foreign Ministry said in a press release yesterday.

15kg gold statue found in house

A gold statue of God Kataragama weighing 15 kgs, allegedly stolen from a Hindu Kovil was recovered from a house at Kirimetiyana, Lunuwila by the Chilaw anti-vice squad on Thursday.

A suspect taken into custody, had said that an Army captain had gifted this statue to his son, police said.
