Asian Congress on fluid mechanics begins today Kandy South group correspondent The Asian Congress of Fluid Mechanics organised by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Peradeniya in association with the Asian Congress of Fluid Mechanics (ACFMX) will be held at the University of Peradeniya's Faculty of Engineering from today, May 17 to May 21. The opening ceremony will be at the E. O. E. Pereira Theatre of the Faculty of Engineering on Monday, commencing at 8.30 a.m. today. This is a historic Congress as it will be held for the first time in Sri Lanka with about 200 delegates from around the world will be presenting their scientific findings at the congress on a variety of fields.The opening ceremony will be graced by the presence of Ambassadors of eleven countries with the acting Ambassador for Japan in Sri Lanka H. Karube as the chief guest. Minister of Science and Technology Prof. Tissa Witharne will be the Guest of Honour. There will be several special lectures by eminent scientists in plenary and special sessions. The list of invited speakers are Prof. Shigeo Kida, National Institute of Fusion Science, Japan. (Itiro Tani Memorial Lecture) Elementary Vortex-dynamical roles in Turbulence, Prof. Hassan Aref - Virginia Tech College of Engineering, USA. (Zhou Pei-Yuan Memorial Lecture) Three Vortex Problem and its Ramifications, Prof. K. R. Sreenivasan, ICTP, Trieste Italy (Satish Dhawan Memorial Lecture). Dr. P. N. Shankar - National Aeroneutical Laboratories, Bangalore, India 'Some Problems associated with Low Gravity Liquid Sloshing' and Dr. He Dexin, China Aerodynamic R & D Centre, Sichuan - 'Review of wing engineering research in China'. There will also be special lecture by Prof. G. S. Bhat, Prof. H. J. S. Fernando, Prof. Guowe He, Prof. Jar Min Huyn, Prof. Tissa Illangasekera, Prof. Mashiro Inoue, Prof. Lin Jianzhong, Prof. Rene Kahawita, Prof. Sanjay Mittal, Prof. B. N. Raghunandan Prof. Yashushi Takeda and Prof. Poojitha Yapa - all eminent academics from Institutions outside Sri Lanka. |
