by Alex David, Negombo special correspondent A six year old girl road a bicycle blindfolded for five kilometres in 27 minutes in an attempt to enter the Guinnes Book of Records on Saturday. Sulanie Apeksha Hettiarachchie of Newstead Girls College, Negombo amazed spectators in Negombo city when she commenced the trip in front of St. Mary's church, Negombo. Ven. Pooja Gnasiri Tissa Thera, Viharadhipati of Sri Bodhirajarama Viharaya Angurukaramulla, Negombo, tied a Pirith thread on the girl's wrist while Rev. Fr. Ivan Nihal Perera also blessed her. Traffic police officer of Negombo police inspected the black cloth prior to the commencement of the trip. At the finish, Sulanie's sister Shehara handed over a bouquet of flowers while her mother handed the girl a glass of orange juice. |
