'Radio Ad of the Year' was won by Leo Burnett Solutions for the commercial 'Sri Lanka Telecom', 'SLT - IDD.' Phoenix O & M also won the TV ad of the year for 'Eveready - Power to the nation' for marketer, Energizer Lanka.

The highest number of gold medals, nine, were won by Phoenix advertising while Lowe LDB, Leo Burnett, J. Walter Thompson won eight each.

Grant McCann Erickson won the coveted award for the SriLankan Airlines 'one day' commercial. According to Managing Director, Erickson Neela Marikkar the success of this was teamwork and said that they would do even better next year. She said that credit of this campaign should go Russell Miranda and Padma Kumara. "We must also thank our client, SriLankan airline," she said.

Grants, won six gold's, six silvers and three bronze awards.

Phoenix Executive Creative Director, Ruchi Sharma said that a very conscious decision was taken to redesign Phoenix with the existing people and clients. "This was successful and it can only get better," she said.

Leo Burnett Solutions Managing Director Ranil De Silva said that their agency is not even five years old and to win 24 awards including eight gold medals was a remarkable achievement," he said.

An official from Lowe LDB said that "it takes teamwork and planning to keep winning awards." A lot of hard work went to produce the commercials and receiving awards was recognition of class and quality.

JWT official said that they have been maintaining quality in all their creations and awards were fruits of their labour.

The President of the SLIM awards Dr. K. U. Kamalgoda said that a very young team started from zero to conduct the awards ceremony. "We have decided to present half a million from the profits to have a fund which would help to develop the advertising industry in Sri Lanka. "We hope to organise seminars and bring down foreign lecturers to conduct them," he said.

He said that there were over 1500 guests and this was a record for the history of the SLIM awards.

Former President of SLIM Lal De Mel said that it was a well-organised ceremony but said that it should be shorter. He said that the impact on the mass market should be checked," he said.

Director Connissance Management Nimal Perera too said the ceremony was well organised but long drawn. "As a client these events are very important to us," he said. However he said that he was disappointed that some Indian advertisements, which were dubbed in sinhala, too got awards. "The awards should be given only to 100 percent local productions," he said.

Past President SLIM Nalin Attigalle said that a bigger venue was needed to conduct an event of this magnitude. He said people in the back tables do not get a good view. "The table arrangements were made with great care but it is difficult to please everyone," he said. He said that even the judging was very fair and unbiased.

3M Lanka (Pvt) Ltd was the strategic partner while Hiru FM, State Pharmaceutical Corporation, National Savings Bank, Sri Lanka Telecom and Creations were the main partners. Event partners were SriLankan Airlines, Trans Asia Hotel, Carlsberg, Sri Lanka Exhibition and convention hall, TOSHIBA and Ceylinco Printing and Stationery (Pvt) Ltd while Rupavahini Corporation, SHA FM, SUN FM, Daily News, Business Today and ACNielsen were media partners.
