Printing of poll cards from Feb. 26

by Anjana Gamage

Printing of ballot papers for the April general election will commence from February 26, Government Printer Neville Nanayakkara told the Daily News.

"After the nominations period concludes on February 24, the Commissioner of Elections should tender nomination lists according to the alphabetical order to proceed with the printing procedure at the Government Press. However we have scheduled it for February 26," he said.

According to the Government Printer, 80 tonnes of special printing paper containing watermark, security fibres and visible quality have already been manufactured in the United Kingdom under UK Crown Agents. The Government Press will have to bear Rs. 30 to Rs. 35 million for the printing of the ballot papers in all three languages for 2004.
