News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Fifteen parties, 33 independents hand nominations by Anura Maitipe So far 15 recognized political parties and 33 Independent Groups have handed in their nominations for the April-2 General Election for 15 districts, a spokesman for Elections Commission told the Daily News. Among the political parties, the National Development Front and Ruhunu Janatha Pakshaya handed over nominations to contest the Gampaha District at the Gampaha District Secretariat and the Sri Lanka Jathika Peramuna for Colombo District. Meanwhile, the Ruhunu Janatha Pakshya handed over their nominations for Kalutara and Kandy districts, the Liberal Party for Matale, Eksath Samajawadi Party and National Development Front for Hambantota and the Eksath Samajawadi Party for the Ratnapura district. Among the 11 Independent Groups, one group handed in their nominations from the Colombo district, three from the Gampaha district, one each from Kalutara, Hambantota, Batticaloa and Digamadulla districts. People's Alliance General Secretary D.M. Jayaratne said that the Freedom Alliance is due to hand in nominations for 22 districts including Jaffna District. The list of nominees for 22 districts have already been finalised and the nominations will be handed over later, he added. |
