In a statement, he said he has instructed his supporters not to include fairy tales in his election campaign or any of the posters and leaflets in his favour. "It is the general rule at election times to promise farmer relief, housing schemes, vehicles, Samurdhi allowances and jobs to unemployed graduates, to win the election. When we came to power in 2001, the Treasury was deplete. Because of lavish expenditure by the PA Government, the Government found difficult to pay monthly salaries to government employees," stated the UNP Deputy Leader. He said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe himself has announced that he never lies to the masses and that he was happy to give people everything if it was possible. "But circumstances did not permit us to do so. The President dissolved Parliament right at the moment when we were getting ready to redress the problems of the people." Jayasuriya said. He affirmed that he will not leave room for party candidates to give false promises to win the election. |
