Colombo Dockyard undertakes another major contract

The Colombo Dockyard Limited (CDL) has again undertaken a major contract to repair a tanker owned by Greart Eastern Shipping Co.India "MT. JAG PARI". The continuos contracts the Colombo Dock Yard receives from international shipping lines for repairs has showcased the trust and confidence reposed in the country's skills in ship repairs. MT. JAG PARI - 28,679 DWT oil docked in Colombo last week for drydocking and lay up repairs. The vessel is accommodated in CDL's No. 4 drydock with the capacity to handle vessels up to 125,000 dwt.

According to Dockyard sources, CDL has been a preferred choice for drydocking repairs of GESCO offshore support vessels managed by the offshore division. This is one of the first tankers from GESCO Shipping division to call for drydocking repairs, sources said.

"GESCO being one of the leading private ship owners in the Indian subcontinent was confident, CDL would complete repairs on schedule ", sources said.

Meanwhile, MT. MAHARSHI KARVE, 123,450 DWT Crude oil tanker which underwent extensive steel renewal repairs at CDL No. 4 drydock left for India recently. That was the longest tanker to be accommodated in CDL's No. 4 drydock.

During this repair 03 units of the Main Engine, 02 units in the auxiliary engine were overhauled. Cargo pump and turbine overhauling and other machinery were also attended. The Co2 and the Inert gas systems were also attended to during this repair call. The surface preparation - blasting and coating work was handled by Premator East.

CDL has employed all possible resources, with the clear objective of completing the repairs and redelivering the ship to the owners meeting the redelivery schedules.The local agents for the vessel Asha Agencies coordinated the operations smoothly.

Colombo Dockyard Limited operates the four drydocks with the maximum capacity of 125,000 dwt, while ship building heavy engineering has also contributed in placing CDL as one of the major marine engineering institution in the region. CDL operates jointly in Collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd. Japan.
