Muslim dignitary's visit will usher in peace - Colombo Mayor

by A. H. M. Farook

Your Holiness' visit will definitely usher in peace to this country in the future, said Colombo Mayor Prasanna Gunawardena while welcoming the leader of the World Shazuliya Thareeka, His Holiness Al Seyyid Sheikh Ajwad Abdulla Al Fassy Al Macci Ash Shazulee at a reception held at the Members' Room, Town Hall, Colombo last Friday.

Colombo is a multi-ethnic city where all major communities live amicably and peacefully.

This city was a popular destination of those Arab traders long long ago. Since then this city has developed to the present state, mayor declared.

There are nearly 250,000 Shazuliya adherents here in Sri Lanka. Your Holiness' visit is indeed a blessing to this country, Colombo Mayor said.

His Holiness Sheikh Ajward in his brief speech said that this was his second visit to this beautiful country and considered Sri Lanka as his second home.

"I pray for the country's well-being and all the problems and differences here solved. I thank both the President and Prime Minister for making our visit a memorable one, His Holiness declared.

At the end of the proceedings, the Mayor presented His Holiness with a plaque to signify the occasion.

Urban Development and Public Utilities Minister M. A. M. Maharoof, Deputy Mayor Asath Sally and member of the Municipal Council were present at the ceremony.
