Toyota shifts into high gear in Sri Lanka by Sudarshana Perera Toyota Lanka (Pvt) Ltd will venture in to a new brand imaging campaign to dominate the vehicle market with over 32 per cent market share. The new move comes in the wake of 2003 profit margin of 150 per cent. Under this program, Toyota Lanka will promote and market passenger cars, Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) and commercial type vehicles. "As we see tremendous improvement in potential for brand new vehicles, spare parts and services, we have streamlined very efficient and attractive business modalities to attract more customers and offer them special and eco-friendly products " said Manager Sales, Toyota Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, Rukshan Navaratne in an interview with "Daily News". "Our company has launched a world-wide campaign to promote Formula One and Eco-friendly vehicles and in Sri Lanka too we have focused the younger car enthusiasts to convince them Toyota vehicles are not only family oriented ones but also appeals to the young," Navaratne said." We have much to offer the young generation", he said. Outlining the financial performance last year, he said that they were able to achieve 39.2 % market share and the company has recorded 67 % growth in sales. He attributed the prudent marketing strategy adopted by the new management as one of the major factors toward this growth. "We were able to implement restructuring at marketing and sales departments to make ourselves ideally suited to offer a satisfactory customer service. We also introduced various schemes to motivate our internal staff," he said. "Our company will give more emphasis to introduce Toyota luxury cars in Sri Lanka. We also market Toyota certified used vehicles at our main showroom Toyota Plaza in Wattala and outlets in Kandy, Colombo and Kurunegala. "PRIUS" the latest innovative car manufactured by us is an advance development done by the company recently and it is a eco-friendly economical and zero-emissions model. We would request the government to seriously consider granting tax relief to environment friendly vehicles such as Toyota Prius," he said. He also emphasized the need for a better road surface and network and maintaining proper fuel quality standards to further develop the industry. |
