National Sales Congress on January 30: SLIM to Serve in Jaffna by Shirajiv Sirimane The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) has decided to open a branch in Jaffna in a bid to provide marketing training to the youth in the peninsula. SLIM President Prof. K.U. Kamalgoda at a press conference in Colombo announced this on Friday. "This area had been shut down for two decades. We still see some gray areas and are waiting for them to settle down before opening our regional office in Jaffna", he said. The Sri Lankan sales force is growing fast and the number of women entering the profession are on the increase, said Prof. Kamalgoda. He said one of the main advantages the women have over men is the easier access to institutions for marketing. There is belief that women also have a better flair for persuading clients. "Unlike the old days women are even ready to travel out of Colombo and staying overnight which has increased the demand for women for marketing." He said that the number of direct employees in the industry has reached 100,000. Organisers are expecting over 250 participants for the National Sales Congress (NASCO) scheduled to be held on 30 January at Trans Asia Hotel from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Every company has their own highflying sales personnel that need recognition and the NASCO is an event for these people. Sales force is the core factor in any business. It is the vital element for successful survival in a competitive and challenging environment. A strong well-motivated sales staff will bring profits to the company and sustain growth. The guest speakers at the event were Certified Analytical Chemist, Ajith C. S. Perera, National Apprenticeship and Industrial Training Authority Chairman and Vocational Training Authority Acting Chairman Ajith Colonne and Sensei South Asian Senior partner and Sensei Sri Lanka-Bangladesh Managing Director Ranjan de Silva. |
