Tennis bronze for Sri Lanka Sarath Premathilake - reporting from Hyderabad Sri Lanka's Rohan de Silva and Harshana Godmanne won the bronze medal in the men's doubles by overcoming Nigeria's Rutimi Jegede and Sunday Maku 4-6, 6-3 and 6-4 in the Afro Asian Games being held at the Lal Bahadur Stadium, Hyderabad. However in the men's singles Nigeria's Abdul Babalova beat Harshana Godamanne 6-4, 6-2, while Nigeria's Sunday Maku overcame Rohan de Silva 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 which saw the Nigerians clinching the Team Title 2-1. The two tennis players were last minute inclusions to the Sri Lanka squad as only 11 athletes from Sri Lanka were due to take part in the Games. Several top tennis playing countries had decided to skip the Games which made Sri Lanka's task easier. |
