Tharindu and Sanduni table tennis champions

Tharindu Samaraweera of S. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia and Sanduni Kavitilleke of Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda won the boys and girls under 17 singles title respectively at the 57th junior national table tennis championships worked off at the Sugathadasa indoor stadium courts.

Samaraweera had the better of Gihan Madushanka Liyanage of Dharmaraja College Kandy in the final 11-9, 10-12, 11-6, 11-9 while Kavitilleke defeated Ishara Madurangi of Devananda College Ambalangoda 11-9, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8 in the final. Tharindu Samaraweera also clinched the mixed doubles title along with partner A. C. K. Udugama overcoming the pair of Tharindra Weerakoon and Sukitha Wickremanayake 11-8, 11-7, 11-5 in the final.

Gihan Madushanka Liyanage however made amends for his defeat in the under 17 final by winning the boys under 15 singles and the boys under 17 doubles title. In the under 15 singles final he defeated Pasanda Yapa of Royal College 11-7, 11-5, 11-8. In the under 17 doubles he joined Hasitha Samaraweera of Dharmaraja College Kandy and went on to beat the combination of Pasanda Yapa and Sahanka Ganegoda of Royal College 11-9, 17-15, 11-8.

Ishara Madurangi of Devananda College Ambalangoda also won two titles the girls under 13 singles and the girls under 15 singles. In the under 15 final she defeated Ruhansi Wijekoon of Maliyadeva BMV Kurunegala 11-9, 1-11, 11-5, 11-7 and in the under 13 final she had the better of Nadini Abeygoonawardena of Girls High School Kandy 13-11, 11-9, 11-13, 11-8.

In the girls under 17 doubles final Ruhansi Wijekoon and A. C. K. Udugama defeated Sanduni Kavitilleke and Neumi Gunasekera 11-9, 11-7, 11-6. Sahanaka Ganegoda of Royal College took the boys under 13 singles title overcoming Buddi Hemian of Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda 12-10, 11-6, 11-5. Nibasanda Yapa of Royal College won the boys under 11 singles title with a 14-12, 11-5, 12-10 win over Chameera Ginige of Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda.

Tharindra Weerakoon of Maliyadeva BMV Kurunegala bagged the girls under 11 singles title with a hard fought 5-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-7 win over Pavithra Gimhani of Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda in the final.

In the boys under 9 singles final A. M. Sashiranga of Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda beat Pasan Bimsara of Royal College 11-6, 11-4, 4-11, 11-8 and in the girls under 9 singles final Kavindi Halkewela of Southland College Galle defeated Oshadi Gunasekera of Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda 11-9, 11-6, 11-6.
