Good sales for Western Highlands and N'Eliya teas

A line of PEKOE from Uva Highlands Group sold at a price of Rs. 450 per kilogramme and teas from the Western Highlands and Nuwara Eliya sold well and were more consistent at the tea auctions held on October 22.

Forbes and Walkers Limited said overall quality from Western and Nuwara Eliya planting districts remained fairly useful whilst Uva teas declined in the customary manner. A total of 53 invoices from the Western and Nuwara Eliya planting districts sold above Rs. 200 per kg. whilst there were only seven invoices which sold above Rs. 200 per kg from the Eastern sector. As many as six invoices exceeded the Rs. 300 per kg. mark.

Court Lodge Estate and Lovers Leap Estate coming under the Kelani Valley Plantations topped the prices for Nuwara Eliya teas by selling two lines of Broken Orange PEKOE Fanning to (BOPF) for Rs. 355 each. The Mahagastota Estate sold a line of Broken Orange PEKOE for Rs. 260 while Lovers Leap Estate sold a line of PEKOE for Rs. 345 per kg. In the Western High grown sector Alton Group, Upcot and Gourvilla Group, Upcot sold a BOP for Rs. 260 with Alton Group selling a line of BOPF for Rs. 260 to record the top prices for the region. Bridwell Estate sold a line of PEKOE for Rs. 375 followed by Kirkoswald Group who sold the same grade of tea for Rs. 355.

Western Medium grown was once again dominated by Kenilworth Group which sold a line of BOP for Rs. 260 and a line of PEKOE for Rs. 280. The top price for BOP went to Vellai Oya Group which fetched Rs. 201.

Liddesdale Group topped the prices for Udapussellawa by obtaining the price of Rs. 260 for a line of PEKOE and the other top prices were BOP Rs. 140 Luckyland Group and BOPF Rs. 187 Ragalla Group.

Uva Highlands Group though the Uva quality season is now on the decline sold a line of PEKOE for Rs. 450 and also topped the prices for BOP Rs. 250 and BOPF Rs. 305 for the Uva region.
