by Sandasen Marasinghe A French national who allegedly cast lewd remarks and sexually harassed three female cabin crew members aboard a SriLankan Air Lines flight was indicted yesterday before the Colombo High Court. The accused Tongio Yves Fernad (48), a French National was charged on four counts for attempting to molest three air hostesses while on the flight from Zurich to Colombo on June 6, 2003. According to a statement made by a crew member the accused who was a frequent visitor to Sri Lanka spoke fluent Sinhala and used Sinhala obscene words at the stewardesses. The statement made by the accused to the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Katunayake Airport it was his 26th trip to Sri Lanka. He had not encountered any problem before. He admitted to having consumed liquor during the flight which would have been the cause for his shameful behaviour. He denied having physically harassed the air hostesses. The accused said that he was a butcher in Switzerland and that he left Zurich Airport on June 2, 2003 by a SriLankan Airlines flight to Colombo. On the flight he consumed four glasses of whisky and was "tight" . |
