Trincomalee correspondent The totally damaged Mannar water supply scheme partly renovated with funds from the GTZ - a German funding agency is to be improved by the Asian Development Bank funded North East Community Restoration and Development (NECORD) Project to benefit 30,000 people. The water tower too has to be reconstructed. Mannar town water supply scheme obtains water from tube wells at Murunkan which are being fed by the Giants tank. This project once improved will benefit 30,000 people and the cost of the project is estimated at Rs. 10.5 m. According to North East Regional Support Centre foundation for the reconstruction of the water tower at Murankan has already laid and work has started. The Vankalai water supply scheme also in Mannar district is also to be reconstructed. Under this scheme 6,000 people will be benefited and the cost has been estimated at Rs. 14.55 million. Water for this scheme is obtained from wells at Murunkan and here too the water tower has to be reconstructed. |
