The President's Office said it is in receipt of a letter dated October 24 by the Prime Minister of Norway, Kjell Magne Bondevik, in response to the President's letter of October 23 requesting the removal of Major General Tellefsen as head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM). The Prime Minister of Norway has assured the President, that the request is receiving serious consideration and that he has asked the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs to address the matter as an immediate priority, a press release issued by Presidential media Director Janadasa Peiris said. The President is in receipt of a report from the Commander of the Navy, regarding the improper conduct of Major General Teleffsen, which could have potentially jeopardized the lives of Navy Personnel and has compromised the national security of Sri Lanka. The President had also received prior reports, regarding improper actions of Major General Tellefsen on previous occasions including the sinking of a Chinese Trawler earlier this year, the request to recognise the Sea Tigers as a Navy and granting the LTTE dedicated sea passages being among others. In order to ensure a continued process of smooth monitoring of the CFA, a speedy replacement of Maj. Gen. Tellefsen, as head of the SLMM is all that is required, the release said. |
