'Collective effort key to success of marathon' by Chris Dhambarage The Sales Promotions and Sponsorship Manager of Nestle Lanka Limited Bandula Egodage said that the collective effort of Nestle Lanka Limited and the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited is the main source behind the success of the Nestomalt-Dinamina marathon series. The first event of the Nestomalt-Dinamina marathon series was held in 1982 in Kandy with a participation of just 150 competitors but now it has increased to over 1500 entries in the past couple of years. This is mainly due to the excellent groundwork done by the ANCL and Nestle Lanka Limited along with the Athletic Association of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Police. The latest in the Nestomalt-Dinamina marathon series will be held on August 2 from Dambulla to Kekirawa covering a distance of 20 kilometres. Over 2000 competitors including several school boys are expected to participate in this event. Egodage said that Nestle Lanka Limited are proud to be associated with the ANCL Group in organising marathon events in Sri Lanka for the past 20 years. As the pioneers in organising marathon events in the country Nestle Lanka Limited and the ANCL have done a tremendous task in popularising the event in the rural areas. In fact more than 95 percent of the competitors hail from the outstations and from the rural areas who have grabbed the opportunity to display their talent and potential. Sarath Prasanna Gamage who represented the country at the South Asian Federation Games, Asian championships and at the Olympic Games too made his mark first by competing in the Nestomalt-Dinamina marathon. All winners and runners up will receive their awards at the Geethanjali musical extravaganza which will be telecast live on Rupavahini. |
