'N' series passport foils designs of unscrupulous elements - Immigration & Emigration Controller

by Sarath Malalasekera

With the launching of new 'N' series passport we have realised our dream of introducing a new series of passport with high security features and a new printing system with advanced technology. This is a milestone in the history of the Immigration and Emigration Department, said Controller Mervyn Wijesekera, at the launching ceremony held at the Trans Asia hotel recently.

Controller Wijesekera deliverying the vote of thanks said that with the issue of this passport, unscrupulous elements will find it impossible to achieve their aims and that this passport will pave the way for genuine Sri Lankan travellers to be treated in a more dignified manner by foreign authorities.

"I wish to express my special gratitude to Interior and Christian Affairs Minister John Amaratunga, Secretary M.N. Junaid and the staff of the Ministry of Interior for their fullest cooperation in completing this project successfully," Controller Wijesekera said. "I would like to express my special appreciation to the consortium comprising Hei Tech Padu Berhad Malayasia, Jura JSP Hungary, CD Holding Malayasia, Perum Peruri Indonesia and Epic Lanka Limited for all their efforts to supply this high quality new passport with a printing system within a period of five months as agreed by them.

The staff of these institutions extended their fullest support to meet this target. The Informatics Limited, IBM World Trade Corporation and Global Enterprise Technologies Limited have given the necessary technical support to complete the project in time. I would like to thank the staff of these companies also for their cooperation," the Controller said.

He said that the consultation services provided by Government Printer Neville Nanayakkara, Deputy Government Printer Lalith de Silva and Dr. Dileepa de Silva in making this project a reality within a short period of time is greatly appreciated.

Controller Wijesekera thanked all his Deputy Controllers, Assistant Controllers and other officers for their fullest cooperation for the successful completion of this project.
