Protect counry's sovereignty, says Mahinda in Poson message

Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapakse, in his Poson message alerts the people to be determined to protect the country's sovereignty, which is our heritage over many centuries, as multiple strategies are emerging from time to time to destroy the culture and morals inculcated in us following the arrival of Arahant Mahinda, two hundred and thirty six years after the Buddha's passing away.

We have to be mindful that the evolution of state machinery immediately following the second coronation of King Thissa, took place without any blood letting.Arrival of Arahant Mahinda laid the foundation for a new culture and fostered many spheres including the areas of arts, philosophies, irrigation and architecture in our country.

Successes in those spheres were possible because Buddhism was the base of our morals," the meessage said.

Poson season is the time people pilgrimage historical places of veneration such as Anuradhapura and Sithulpahuwa. As we worship and observe Buddhist discipline, we must also recall our history in order to meet the surge of challenges against our culture and morals.

May your hearts and mind enjoy the bliss of tranquillity as the Poson Fullmoon sheds its rays upon you, concludes the Opposition Leader's Poson Message.
