Build a just and righteous society - Prime Minister

Let us all dedicate ourselves to the task of reviving our religious and cultural values and building a just and righteous society in this country states Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in a message to mark Poson Poya which falls today. The message added:

"The advent of Anubudu Mahinda Thera enabled Sri Lanka to inherit the Buddha Dhamma and launch its own culture.

That is why Buddhists especially and the people in Sri Lanka in general commemorate the arrival of Arahat Mahinda Thera on Poson Poya Day.

The Sadaham movement which began with Anuradhapura as the centre had been our guiding force for thousands of years. The Buddha Dhamma introduced by Arahat Mahinda Thera has not only helped to transform the Sri Lankan people into a just and disciplined nation but also enabled the country to earn the title of Dhammadveepa. The distancing of religion from present day society to a certain extent due to various reasons has contributed towards social degeneration. Therefore we should rededicate ourselves towards reviving our cultural principles and religious fervour.

On this Poson Poya Day let us all resolve to dedicate ourselves to this noble endeavour and build a just and righteous society. I wish you all the blessings of the Noble Triple Gem.
