A special police team attached to the Mirihana police on Friday arrested three members of an underworld gang which included a Constable attached to the CID. Another member of the gang has been identified as a karate master. The gang had been involved in a spate of crime and robberies in the Colombo District. An automatic rifle, two pistols, two Rambo knives and several army type uniforms, masks, berets and vehicle number plates were seized from the suspects. Investigations revealed that the suspects were planning several large scale robberies in the city at the time of their arrest. The raid was conducted by a team of officers led by OIC of the Unit Asoka Gunasekera directed by DIG Western Province (South) K.P.P. Pathirana. |
