CR and FC and Police should have it easy Ceylonese Rugby and Football Club and Police Sports Club should have no difficulty in overcoming Kurunegala RFC and Kandy Youths in their Caltex 'A' Division League rugby matches which will be worked off at Longden Place and Police Park respectively on June 1. (tomorrow). CR which scored an impressive 39-15 win over Navy should get an abundance of possession from the set scrums and line outs with veteran Viraj Prasantha having the edge over his vis-a-vis T. S. Jayawardena while Sumedha Jayasinghe and Roshan Perera should hold sway in the line outs. If the halves combination of Champika Nishantha and Charith Kodagoda clicks then the Red Shirts should make, the maximum use of the 'good ball' that comes their way as they have two hard running centres Harin Kaluarachchi and Dilan Abeygunawardena while on the wings they will have the services of that powerful runner M. J. Mushtaq with full back Asanga Rodrigo joining the line to form the overlap. Kurunegala RFC which suffered a humiliating 5-137 defeat at the hands of Army one week ago should come up with some resolute tackling if they are to prevent the Red Shirts from going on a scoring spree. At Police Park the high riding policemen are expected to go on the rampage against Kandy youths. The forte of the policemen have been their power-packed forwards with Shantha Rohana, Muthumala, Kulatunge, Herath, Walagedera and Wilson giving a terrific display in the loose and should maintain their supremacy in tomorrow's game. They are also assured of a large share of possession from the set scrums and line outs due to the slick hooking of Asela Muthumala and excellent line out jumping of Pradeep Wilson and Kulatunge. The Police three quarters should run the ball at every turn to make maximum use of the possession that comes their way which would enable them to score a runaway victory tomorrow. (R.S.) |
