Provincial Minister's killing;Report to be forwarded next week

Four special police teams deployed by the Colombo DIG Bodhi Liyanage, on the direction of IGP T.E. Anandarajah to trace the killers of People's Alliance Southern Provincial Minister M.K. Ranjith alias Chandi Malli had collected vital information about the assailants.

The four police teams conducting investigations in the Southern Police division will forward their reports to the authorities early next week.

Earlier Maligakanda Magistrate and Additional District Judge Ms. Kusala Sarojini Weerawardena who conducted the Magisterial inquiry directed the Fort Police to forward the inquiry reports including the JMO's report and suspects before the Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Mohammed Macky for further investigations. The reports stated that the death was due to injuries caused by firearms.

The Provincial Minister was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the High Security Zone, York Street, Colombo on Sunday morning.

He was killed while returning after appearing before the CID on a court order. Colombo Crime Division (CCD) Director Senior SP Sarath Lugoda is conducting investigations assisted by Colombo Central Senior SP Lucky Dissanayake and a police team attached to the CCD.
