Norwegian delegation in K'nochchi for talks with LTTE by Ranga Jayasuriya Norwegian Ambassador Hans Bratscar and his predecessor Jon Westborg yesterday met LTTE political chief Thamilselvan in Kilinochchi for talks on the current stalemate of the peace negotiations. LTTE spokesman Daya Master told the Daily News that the two diplomats held one-and-half-hour meeting with the LTTE political chief. He however refused to elaborate on the issues taken up at the talks, second such encounter between the Norwegians and the LTTE since the suspension of talks. Former Norwegian Ambassador Westborg met Thamilselvan last week to resume the talks. Meanwhile London based LTTE chief negotiator Anton Balasingham will return to the Wanni next week for talks with Tiger supremo Prabhakaran. The LTTE spokesman said that, Balasingham had invited Minister Milinda Moragoda to the Wanni to discuss the present situation on the peace front. Balasingham will also meet Japanese peace envoy Yasushi Akashi in Kilinochchi. Akashi, who is due in Colombo on Saturday is also expected to meet LTTE chief Prabhakaran, embassy sources said. Balasingham's arrival which follows the Prime Minister's response to Balasingham's letter announcing the unilateral suspension of the talks, and his invitation to Minister Moragoda to the Wanni for talks came amidst the speculations over holding a two-day meeting between the Government and the LTTE before the donor conference scheduled for early June in Tokyo. |
