Two awards for Flying With One Wing in Singapore

"Flying With One Wing" directed by Asoka Handagama bagged two awards at the 16th Singapore International Film Festival Silver Screen Awards Ceremony held in Singapore yesterday.

Asoka Handagama won the Special Jury Prize and Anoma Janadari won the Best Actress Award.

The Special Jury Prize was given to Asoka Handagama " for its audacious cinematic portrait of a woman caught between the repressive power of a patriarchal society and her own masculine aspirations".

The judges awarded the Best Actress Award to Anoma Janadari " for her sensitive portrayal of the struggle faced by an underclass woman with male desires."

The awards are as follows:

Best Film - The Best of Our Times (Taiwan)
Young Cinema Award - Blissfully Yours (Thailand)
Special Jury Prize - Flying With One Wing (Sri Lanka)
Best Director - Angel on the Right (Tajikistan)
Best Actress - Anoma Janadari (Flying with One Wing)
Best Actor - Wing Fan (The Best of Our Times).
