Dossier forwarded to AG

by Sarath Malalasekera

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probing the news item on an attempt to assassinate President Chandrika Kumaratunga published in the 'Lakmina' weekend Sinhala newspaper yesterday forwarded the dossier of the investigations to the Attorney General (AG) for further instructions.

Statements of Tecla Dirukshi Perera, wife of Sripathy Sooriyaarachchi, Ranjith Silva, Publisher of the Lakmina newspaper after December 12, 2002 and ten others were recorded by the special CID team.

The CID investigations also revealed that the first Editor of the 'Lakmina' newspaper had been a journalist attached to a national newspaper.

The CID commenced investigations into the news item on a directive by Interior and Christian Affairs Minister John Amaratunge.

A statement from the Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa was recorded earlier.
