by Sarath Malalasekera The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probing the massive fraud at the Central Province Education Ministry yesterday questioned several advisors to the Education Ministry. The CID also recovered vital documents from the office of the Deputy Director (Commerce) Ananda Munasinghe. Earlier the Deputy Director surrendered to the CID and was later produced before the Kandy Magistrate and Additional District Judge Leon Seneviratne and remanded till May 2. Earlier the CID also arrested N. Weerasinghe, an accountant of the Ministry. The CID officials who recorded a statement from Deputy Director Munasinghe revealed that a group of ministry officials were also involved in the massive racket. A special CID team to conduct investigations into the racket will question several senior employees of the Central Province Education Ministry. |
