Arms cache found from Divulapitiya house

The Divulapitiya Police yesterday seized an arms cache from a house in Divulapitiya and took into custody 12 suspects including four army deserters in this connection , SSP Negombo Jagath Keenawinna told the Daily News yesterday.

"Among the suspects is an expert in the manufacture of local pistols galkatas and had turned out pistols that could be fed either by 9mm or 3.8mm ammunition. the SSP said. "Initial investigations have revealed that the pistols belonging to underworld criminals were bought to the hideout for repairs and servicing", the SSP added.

The suspects, residents of Divulapitiya, Negombo, and Katana area, were arrested on Tuesday night along with a shotgun, a revolver, ten pistols including seven galkatas and 50 live bullets.

The group is alleged to have carried out several robberies in and around Divulapitiya town, Police said. SSP Negombo Jagath Keenawinna, ASP R. S. K. Wanawasan, Divulapitiya OIC IP A. Randeniya, IP Nishantha Perera and SI Rajapaksha are carrying out further investigations.
