Fernando was expected to be included in the squad for Kandy, but selection committee sources said that he failed a fitness test held under the watchful eyes of physio Alex Kountouri on Monday and they decided to keep him out.

Sri Lanka drew the first Test played at the Sara Stadium yesterday.

Sri Lanka squad for second Test: Hashan Tillakaratne (captain), Marvan Atapattu, Sanath Jayasuriya, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Kumar Dharmasena, Chaminda Vaas, Muttiah Muralitharan, Prabath Nissanka, Kaushalya Lokuarachchi, Upul Chandana, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Michael Vandort, Dharshana Gamage. - [S.T.]
