Army and Ratnam move into quarters

Sri Lanka Army scraped through to the quarter finals of the Sharp FA Cup when they defeated Java Lane 6 goals to 5 in a penalty shoot out yesterday at the Army grounds. This game ended in a nil all draw with both teams displaying equally good soccer.

After the final whistle referee had to introduce the penalty shoot out to decide the winners. The penalty shoot out too ended as a draw, and the both teams were awarded a kick each. Java Lane SC missed this while Army managed to score and made it 6 goals to Java Lane's 5 goals.

In the second match yesterday played between Ratnam SC and Old Bens at St. Benedict's College ground Ratnams edged out their opponents one goal to nil. The lemons were taken with a blank scorecard. Mohamed Fawmy scored the solitary goal for winners in the second half.

The fixture between Police SC and York SC Kandy could not be played due to heavy rains that prevailed in Kandy on Saturday. The second match for Saturday scheduled to be played in Kurunegala between Pelican SC and Renown SC too did come off due to rains. The other four prequarter finals are scheduled for this weekend.
