Janashakthi win Merc. Sixes title by Chris Dhambarage Janashakthi Insurance retained the Mercantile six a side cricket title for the second successive year when they defeated East West Marketing by 28 runs in the final played at the MCA grounds, yesterday. Janashakthi Insurance batting first were restricted to 56 for 3 from their allotted five overs with Ranga Dias hitting a top score of 28 runs. Muthumudalige Pushpakumara and S. Mendis captured a wicket each for East West Marketing who in reply managed to score only 28 runs from 4.2 overs. Dhammika Rajapaksa, Ashan Ranaweera and T. Mendis picked up a wicket each for the winners. Earlier in the semifinals Janashakthi Insurance beat Sampath Bank and East West Marketing had the better of John Keells. Ranga Dias of Janashakthi Insurance was named man of the final for his brilliant all round performance and Ashan Ranaweera also from Janashakthi Insurance was selected as the man of the tournament. In the women's tournament Ceylinco put up a fine performance to beat Hatton National Bank by five runs in the final. Ceylinco batting first hit up 79 for 1 and in reply Hatton National Bank managed only 74 for 3. In the semifinals Ceylinco beat Data Entry International and Hatton National Bank beat Confifi Group. K. M. Indrani of Ceylinco was selected as woman of the final and woman of the tournament. |
