Kandy beat KRFC with record score by Kandy Sports Corr. Reigning Caltex League Champions Kandy Sports Club blasted the Morale of the new comers Kurunegala Rugby and Football Club when they demolished them by a record breaking score of 172 points (21 goals, 5 tries) to nil in their opening game of their Caltex inter club 'A' Division rugby tournament match played at Nittawela yesterday. At half time Kandy led 66-0. Though conditions under foot were not conducive to fast opener as rains made the grounds wet but Kandy ruggerites handled the wet ball well. The game was so one sided that there were just five line cuts and the ball went into Kandy territory just thrice. Kandy rested their two foreign players and other regulars in the second half. But the replacements proved to be even better as they amassed a record 102 points in the second half. Kandy's scrum half goalled 18 tries from different angles and this should be another record in the local rugby scene at top level rugby. At one stage this match looked as a cricket match on a wet day as the Kurunegala ruggerites allowed their opponents to score almost at will. On the other hand Kandy experimented on all their plays and they worked well. Kandy SC scored through No. 8 Laga Tulanga Tavita (1), Pradeep Basnayake (2), Dhanushka Pushpakumara (6), Chamara Withanage (3), Indrajith Bandaranayake (2), Ifeta Tema (2), Nalaka Weerakoddy (1), Pradeep Liyanage (1), Duminda Pullukuthiarachchi (1), Saranath Hettiarachchi (1), Dilip silvam (1), Malith Silva (1), Kavinda Jayasena (1), Udaya Hettiarachchi (1) and Amjad Buksh (1), Nalaka Weerakoddy goaled 3 tries while Amjad Buksh put over a record 18 tries.
