CPC to introduce LP gas cylinders

Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Chairman Daham Wimalasena said yesterday that the Corporation plans to release Liquid Petroleum (LP) gas cylinders to the local market in a bid to challenge the monopoly in the gas market.

If the Corporation is able to complete initial infrastructure requirements, domestic gas cylinders will be released to the market within this year, he told our sister paper the Dinamina.

He identified the shortage of gas cylinders, filling machines and financial difficulties as the obstacles the Corporation is facing in its latest move and called for Government assistance.

Currently the Corporation produces 50 tons of LP gas per day which is bought by the Shell Gas Company.
