Panadura group correspondent, Kapila Somaratne Students, parents and the staff of the Panadura St. Anthony's Balika Maha Vidyalaya last week felicitated Noel T. Mendis, the first citizen of Panadura town for constructing a modern Home Science laboratory for the school at a cost of Rs. 1 million. Mendis handed over the keys of the laboratory to the Principal Ms. N.K. Perera at the ceremony. Western Province Chief Minister Reginald Cooray was the Chief Guest. Urban Council Chairman Deepthi Asoka Abeywickrama was also present. Minister in his address said that Mendis was a politician who was engaged in descent politics in Panadura when he was the Urban Council Chairman during UNP regime and rendered a yeoman service during his tenure. The Principal said that once Mendis contributed Rs. 25,000 for concrete slabs to cover the drain that run across the school to prevent overflow during rainy days. |
