FA Cup pre-quarters begin today

The Sharp FA Cup Soccer Championship 2002/2003 which began four months ago has reached the quarter final stage. This delay was mainly international commitments undertaken by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka.

This weekend four matches are scheduled to be played in Kandy, Kurunegala and two in Colombo. The teams billed to compete this weekend are six teams participating in Premier League Police SC, Renown SC, Old Bens, Ratnam SC, Army SC and Java Lane SC, York SC, Kandy and Pelican SC are other teams qualified for pre-quarters but not playing in the premier league.

A total of 120 matches were up-to-date. The top sixteen teams include all the Premier League Clubs and it will almost be a battle like the championship tourney.

Today York SC will take on Police SC in the first pre-quarter at Kandy while Pelican SC meet Renown SC at Kurunegala. Tomorrow's games are between Old Bens SC and Ratnam SC at Kotahena and Army versus Java Lane at Army Grounds, Colombo. The other pre-quarter finals are scheduled to be played next weekend. (BP)
