Havies face a strong challenge from Navy

Havelocks Sports Club will face a strong challenge when they confront Navy Sports Club in the Caltex inter club 'A' division league tournament match at Welisara on Sunday.

The Havies won last year's game 28-6 and this time they are further strengthened with the inclusion of two foreign players from Tonga number eight Citaleki Matilea and centre Tevita Kaufusi.

Meanwhile the defending champions Kandy Sports Club will launch their defence for the title with a fixture against newcomers Kurunegala RFC at the Nittawela grounds. The Kandy team should pull off this game by a convincing margin with the Kurunegala side playing in the 'A' division tournament after a lapse of seven years.

Kandy SC will be fielding three foreign players this year number eight Thlangaese Tavita from Laga, Iaseta from Western Samoa and Tavita who in fact was their last years coach. The team will be captained by Sajith Mallikarachchi and will have the services of a number of Sri Lanka caps and former national players in their ranks.

CH and FC too will come out for the first time this week when they take on Air Force SC at Katunayake on Sunday. The side is captained by Milinda Jayasinghe and also includes several talented players who will be making a determined effort to get a good start for the new season.
