Indian envoy heads for Russia for talks on Afghanistan MOSCOW, March 27 (AFP) - Indian Deputy Foreign Minister Kanwal Sibal arrives in Russia Thursday for consultations on Afghanistan as part of a four-day visit, an Indian embassy spokesman said. In talks starting Friday Sibal is due to meet his Russian counterpart Vyacheslav Trubnikov in the sixth session of a Russo-Indian working group on Afghanistan, but will also call on Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, the spokesman said. Sibal will head for the second city Saint Petersburg on Saturday and return to India on Sunday, he said. India is Moscow's traditional ally in south Asia, and Foreign Minister Yashwant Sinha visited the Russian capital last months, holding talks with President Vladimir Putin ahead of a May visit to Russia by President Atal Behari Vajpayee. |
