by Sarath Malalasekera Kalinga Nandaka Indatissa was elected uncontested as the new Secretary of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka for the year-2003-2004 at the BASL elections held recently. Indatissa an old boy of St Mary's College, Kegalle and Royal College, Colombo. He entered the legal profession in May 5, 1986 has won several awards while at the Law College, including the Sir Cyril De Zoysa Medal for English Oratory - 1985. Awarded the Senior Mooters Badge by the Law College Moot Society in 1985, President, Law College Jaycees in 1983, President Law College Moot Society in 1984 and Chairman, Founder Member of the Legal Aid Project, Law College, 1984. Indatissa was appointed editor, Colombo Law Society in 1991 -1992. Convener of the Junior Bar Committee of the BASL in 1989-1990. Executive member of the BASL in 1991, 1994 and 1997 and chairman Junior Bar Committee of the BASL. He is currently for a PhD at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, UK in Information Technology Law and Computer Crimes. He is a member of the Advisory Committee on Immigration, Ministery of Interior. Director Employees Trust Fund Board -appointed in March 2002 and a Senior Consultant to the Ministry of Constitutional Affairs. In 1993, he appeared in the United Kingdom at a commission of inquiry appointed by the President of Sri Lanka to probe the killing of General Denzil Kobbekaduwa, commanding officer of the Sri Lanka Army. Indatissa was awarded a scholarship by the British Council to follow a nine-month course of study of Commonwealth Youth Lawyers at the Institute of Advanced Legal studies of the University of London in the UK in 1994. He visited Monaco in 1999 and successfully defended the case of Sri Lankas Olympic Bronze Medal winner Ms. Susanthika Jayasinghe at Arbitration before the IAAF Pannel of Arbitrators. He is the author of several Law books and from 1987 to 1991 functioned as a Public Prosecutor attached to the Chambers of Attorney General of Sri Lanka. |
