Elephant Corridor in Sigiriya opens on March 1
The Elephant Corridor in Sigiriya built under the novel `life-style hotels’ concept in a 200 acre jungle at the backdrop of the Kandalama hills will be opened on March 1. The hotel consists of 24 luxury suites with private pools and gardens surrounded by a tank and a parkland with indigenous trees and plants where wild elephants and other animals are a common sight. According to Susanne Filippine, the Executive Director of Tropical Leisure management, the new hotel would be a boost to the local travel industry as it is catering to the `up-market’, a market segment which Sri Lanka has not promoted. “Our emphasis will be on community development, awareness and protection of all eco-systems while managing this all suite luxury hotel. We will ensure maximum environment protection and no motor traffic will be allowed in the premises where there will be only indigenous plants. Electro Cars, elephants, horses and bicycles will be the modes of transportation within the hotel compound and surrounding area,” she said. (CK) |

better returns since 1999 up to last September before the Central Bank of
Sri Lanka took an abrupt decision to suspend its operations.
