The fourth largest Chinese business conglomerate, China National Construction & Agricultural Machinery Import and Export General Corporation (CAMC), has expressed interest in opening an overseas business representative office in Sri Lanka. This was revealed when CAMC Assistant General Manager Charlie Zhang met Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake at the Ministry. Zhang said CAMC has been involved in several exports to Sri Lanka. He said his company has been interested in investing in Sri Lanka on construction and telecommunications industries. He said CAMC is also involved in global brand building for their quality range of stationery items which they are looking forward to introduce in Sri Lanka. Karunanayake welcoming CAMC's move, said Sri Lanka is a long-term business partner of the People's Republic of China (PRC), where the 50th anniversary of the bilateral trade ties falls this year. He said Sri Lanka is keen on getting more investments from the PRC in several industries vital to the national economy, such as manufacturing garment raw materials. The CAMC has overseas representative offices and business services centres in Myanmar, Bangladesh, Laos, Cuba, Peru, Argentina, Venezuela, Zimbabwe and Hong Kong. |
